First opening in 1980, Chez Colette was operated by Colette Gibbs, a French immigrant from Bordeaux. Gibbs got her start in Nashville tending bar at the Black Poodle on Printer’s Alley in the 1960s. Gibbs’ establishment initially catered to local businessmen, but eventually transitioned into a gay-friendly space. Chez Colette closed in 2001.
